Archery, Bowfishing, & Bow Hunting Initiatives

OHEC’s vision and goals include increasing the public’s awareness and understanding of, and participation in outdoor activities, and promoting sustainable management of natural resources that support human needs, through transformative educational experiences.  This includes Archery, Bowfishing, & Bow Hunting activities.

These initiatives include supporting and expanding bowfishing outreach efforts as part of its natural resources education programming as well as part of its R3 program to Recruit, Retain, & Reactivate hunters and anglers.

Outdoor Sports Alliance Youth Outdoor Skills Day where hundreds of guests are introduced free to activities like archery, bowfishing, airguns, wildlife, fly-tying, fishing, and much more. Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s PDC and many sponsors are key to this event each February at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI. GCOSA President Chuck Horn organizes the event with about 70 volunteers.

For the first time at GCOSA Youth Outdoor Skills Day OHEC debuted the Explore Bowfishing trailer created and operated by Travis Gill’s Rough Fish Assassins where newcomers shoot fish arrows into submerged targets. Sponsors include Raised at Full Draw and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sports Show.
